Left coast to east coast
Monday, October 26, 2009 at 5:40PM I've always lived on the west coast. As such, I've never been a part of the east coast sports scene. In the past two days while in Atlanta I've experienced Game 6 of the American League Championship Series and will try to catch the Monday Night Football game tonight. I've never understood the east coast's plea for earlier games because I've always thought a 5:30 p.m. prime time game on the west coast was way too early. I mean, come on, I'm not even off work yet.
After last night's American League Championship Series featuring the Yankees versus Angels I might have gotten a taste of the east coast's plight. I'm in Atlanta for the National Environmental Public Health Conference but for some reason I couldn't pry myself away from the game to go to bed until midnight ET. I couldn't imagine staying awake for a game until midnight on the west coast. Even for the biggest sports fan, midnight might be stretching it a bit.
How many fans at that game in New York do you think made it into work this morning? Of those who made it in, how many do you think made it in on time? A lot of times we over on the west coast can forget about the right side of the country. Likewise, the east coast has never given the respect the west coast deserves.
Don't get me wrong, I would love a Monday Night Football game in Seattle to take place around 6:00 or 6:30 so I wouldn't have to take off of work early. But where we sacrifice early start times, just remember the east is staying up incredibly late to watch the same game.
What do you all think? Is there any way to get around a 3 hour time difference for nationally televised games?

I feel your pain! But sorta in reverse...I grew up on the east coast where there is no football before lunch. I hate it when my Gamecocks play a 12:30ET game and I have to wake up early to watch them play, swapping bacon and toast for hot dogs; eggs for onion rings.
Taped delay wouldn't work...I've already got east coast friends spoiling The Biggest Loser and The Bachelorette on Facebook; I dont need them to spoil football games for me too!
National time zone, like China? All sports played in Central Time, so it's less late/early for coasts? I don't know....
It's a tricky situation. I'm sure the east coast is just used to it...but falling asleep in the 8th inning of Game 1 of the World Series sucked!
