It's tough out there for a pimp!

Since the death of "The King of Pop", we've gotten more information on Michael Jackson's life, family, nutrition habits, chemical dependencies, quirks and talents than we had throughout his life.

We've gotten to-the-minute updates on his collapse, rescue attempts and autopsy. We've gotten the official comment from his doctors, family and friends. We've seen pictures and images and tributes to his life.

But all of it makes me think: it'd sure be hard to fake your death these days.

There's been a long-running urban legend that rapper Tupac Shakur faked his death to increase album sales. The story goes: Tupac and fellow artist, Notorious B.I.G. are hanging out together in Mexico or South America.

The urban legend persists due to the volume of 2pac music released posthumously. Like this one:

With everyone as connected as they are, information is passed so quickly from person to person that elaborate cover-ups and devious schemes are getting harder to pull off. The truth always comes out.

Gone are the days of using employees posing as third-party supporters; the information-craving public won't allow it.

If there wasn't already incentive enough for businesses to be transparent and honest in communication, there is now the certainty of getting busted. Even withholding seemingly inconsequential pieces of data can cast suspicion on an organization.

On the one hand, this renewed focus on transparency opens up a lot of interesting communcations vehicles for us to use with our clients, like developing Twitter personalities and executive blogs.

But on the other hand, it makes it really hard to fake your own death.

LOVE THAT VIDEO! Now that I've gotten that off my chest, I was thinking- if it's so hard to fake your death, how come it's still fairly easy to commit a crime and not get caught? Or maybe that's not true and I'm just thinking it. Points to ponder.
