Get excited sports fans!
Friday, January 22, 2010 at 3:26PM Plenty of things happened this past week for Seattle sports fans to get excited about. Let’s recap, shall we?
Hail to the King!
Mariners ace starting pitcher Felix Hernandez agreed to a contract extension for five years and $78 million. The deal assures Felix will be a Mariner through the 2014 season and most importantly gives fans a reason to get excited. We have a front office that’s willing to re-sign superstar players!
Carroll replaces Mora
Pete Carroll was introduced as the new head coach for the Seattle Seahawks following an assurance from CEO Tod Leiweke that Jim Mora would be retained. In similar news, Cougar and Husky fans rejoice that Carroll will be leaving USC. Oh yeah, they hired a new GM, too.
Bennett will pay for his sins!
Seattle’s favorite businessman, Clay Bennett, of Seattle Supersonics fame has agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit with former season ticket holders for $1.6 million. The suit is centered around season ticket holders not being offered the chance to purchase Oklahoma City Thunder tickets despite a written promise at the that guaranteed maintaining the same price if renewing through 2009-2010. Bennett moved the Supersonics to Oklahoma City in 2008. So, even though the city and state missed out on getting $3.5 million, rest assured Good Ol’ Clay will still have to dig into his deep pockets yet once again.
